Oil rig jobs requiring no experience or little experience, might be one of the few great adventure opportunities. The life style of an oil rig worker is certainly different from all other types of employment.
If you are looking for offshore oil rig jobs, then you might want to give some consideration to the lifestyle. Obviously, your work environment is in the middle of an ocean. In some cases you may be within sights distance of a shoreline. But many oil rigs are located twenty or so miles offshore.
Work Schedule
The typical worker can plan on spending two weeks to a month at the job site. And then they can spend the same amount of time at home or on shore leave. This certainly is one of the attractive aspects of the jobs…more time to play.
However, oil rig work is not easy. There is a high turnover rate in this industry. This is largely due to life on the rig. It can be difficult living in the same place you work. And you have to live with a group of strangers. Which means, you need to be able to make friends with other oil rig workers.
Hazards of Oil Rig Jobs
There are also the dangers of overseas oil rig jobs that one might have to deal with. Some countries are not politically stable. So there are always the threats of warring factions. However, in these situations, companies go to great lengths to protect workers through highly trained security personnel.
North sea oil rig jobs are located in an environment of harsh weather conditions. This kind of environment tends to weaken the resolve to stick with this type of job. Regardless of location, workers deal with hazards of fire as well. A rig can be a highly flammable place, and so great lengths are taken to protect workers.
Oil Rig Lifestyle
However, there are many positives. Gas and oil industry companies have attempted to make oil rig life more comfortable through the years. In many respects a rig is a small city.
There are accommodations for every basic human need. It largely will depend on the size of the rig, as to what is offered. However, there are sleeping quarters, laundry areas, cafeterias, and recreational places. This is not a vacation resort, though they are designed to help keep moral up, which is a priority.
This is an environment in which people work in close quarters. And there will be many different skill levels as well as educational backgrounds. Everybody’s role is important. And what is essential is getting along.
There may be cultural differences as well. It will not be uncommon on an oil rig job to find people from other countries. There may even be multiple language differences. So one will need to be able to quickly adapt to these challenges.
What’s Your Goal?
There are also some basic lifestyle things to keep in mind while hunting for oil rig job vacancies. The most important thing to keep in mind is why you want this job? What is your reason for seeking out an oil rig job? That will have to be at the forefront of your mind to keep your attitude in check at all times.
On an oil rig, it can be a lonely place. And you certainly want to minimize the possibilities of making enemies. This is an environment that requires dependence upon one another. And that is what will keep you safe and help you keep going so you can enjoy the times back home with friends and family.
I wish you well in your search for entry level oil rig jobs.
